Collingham Advent Light
On Sunday we attended along with members of Newark & Sherwood Concert Band and jointly performed at short notice for the annual switch on of Collingham advent lights, we were lucky with the weather as it was dry and mild. This was our first of many Christmas engagements this year in the build up to our big concert on 17th December, check out our concert dates and engagements section of this website for more information.

Well it’s that time of year again almost, we have a busy few weeks ahead with the build up to Christmas. Our Big Christmas Concert will be held again this year at Windmill Park (The Pride of Lincoln) on whisby Road on Sun 17th December, £5 entry with coffee and mince pies availbale plus a raffle, come along and bring the kids for a great festive afternoon. We are also providing music at St Helens Church, Thorney near Saxilby for their annual Carols by Candlelight service being held on Weds 13th Dec at 7.30pm.

Tomorrow night (Friday 10th Nov) the band will be holding a Concert of Remembrance at Robert Pattinson Academy, North Hykeham at 7.30pm. Please come down and help us raise funds for The Royal British Legion, it’s £5 contribution on entry, there’s hot drinks and a raffle also. This weekend is always a busy time for the band and we take pride in supporting the Royal British Legion and that wonderful work they do to support members and their families of the armed forces past and present.

Our concert of remembrance is fast approaching on Fri 10th Nov 2017 at Robert Pattinson Academy, North Hykeham. All proceeds will go to The Royal British Legion, Entry is £5 donation and tea/coffee will be available at the interval, they’ll also be a raffle. Earlier this month some of the band jumped into two minibuses at 4am and drove 700 miles to Diedesfeld, Neustadt an der Weinstraße to spend some time with our good friends at Musikverien Diedesfeld Band (MVD Band). Our friends kindly put us up in their homes, we went wine tasting on the Friday at a local vineyard, attended and took part in one of their rehearsals ahead of performing with them at the closing night of the Winzergenossenschaft Weinbiet wine festival celebrations. Over the bank holiday weekend we provided entertainment during the Asylum Steampunk Festival held in and around the Castle. The festival is the largest and longest running steampunk festival in the world and is the first time we have been involved with it. We were placed inside the castle grounds and played for an hour in the glorious sunshine. The event is extremely well attended and we were look after very well by the organisers, this is something we hope to be part of again in the future.

On Saturday we had the pleasure of attending Terry Coffey’s 80th Birthday Party and performing a concert for all his family and friends. Terry provided a lovely lunch for us at the Assembly Rooms, Lincoln and at the end of the meal the band put on a concert which was enjoyed by all his guests. On Friday 30th June the band finished a busy week with providing a marching display and mini concert at Hemswell Court for The Army Benevolent Fund The Soldiers Charity Summer Reception and Dinner. The band marched into the grounds where the guests were all arriving and enjoying a champagne reception, we formed up and provided traditional music followed by the national anthem with the lowering of the union jack flag. Yesterday we performed our marching display at the 133rd Lincolnshire Show for the 2nd year running, last year was the first time the band had ever marched and we were very proud to attend the show again this year. The band has been very busy attending extra rehearsals on Sunday mornings leading up to the event and all that hard work really paid off.
