Sad News
We are very sorry to announce the recent loss of two of our friends. John Hicks who retired from the band a year ago and Adrian Sherratt who was one of our Tenor Saxophone players both passed away within a short time of each other. John was one of our trombone players and started playing in the band about 25 years ago after his wife bought him a trombone, John quickly taught himself how to read music and blow a few notes, he then found himself joining what was then The Lincolnshire Concert Band. On Thursday we held our AGM and appointed our new committee for the year ahead. James Kirk who has served as our chairman for the past few years has decided to step down due to work commitments but will remain in the band as our bass trombonist, we thank James for his dedication in the office of chairman. We now welcome Terry Coffey as our new chairman, Terry has served as chairman a number of years ago and in recent years has been our vice chairman to support James. read more£1000 presented to The Royal British Legion
Back in November we held our annual concert of remembrance, all proceeds from this event go to The Lincoln Branch of The Royal British Legion. We are delighted to announce that we raised at total of £1000 which we presented to the charity on Sunday at our Christmas Concert at Windmill Farm in Lincoln. We were also very pleased to have The President of the band Chief Fire Officer Mr Nick Borrill present at the concert and he kindly presented the cheque to Sgt Steve Riley, The Royal British Legion, Lincoln Branch.

On Sunday we attended along with members of Newark & Sherwood Concert Band and jointly performed at short notice for the annual switch on of Collingham advent lights, we were lucky with the weather as it was dry and mild. Well it’s that time of year again almost, we have a busy few weeks ahead with the build up to Christmas. Our Big Christmas Concert will be held again this year at Windmill Park (The Pride of Lincoln) on whisby Road on Sun 17th December, £5 entry with coffee and mince pies availbale plus a raffle, come along and bring the kids for a great festive afternoon. We are also providing music at St Helens Church, Thorney near Saxilby for their annual Carols by Candlelight service being held on Weds 13th Dec at 7.30pm.

Tomorrow night (Friday 10th Nov) the band will be holding a Concert of Remembrance at Robert Pattinson Academy, North Hykeham at 7.30pm. Please come down and help us raise funds for The Royal British Legion, it’s £5 contribution on entry, there’s hot drinks and a raffle also. This weekend is always a busy time for the band and we take pride in supporting the Royal British Legion and that wonderful work they do to support members and their families of the armed forces past and present.

Earlier this month some of the band jumped into two minibuses at 4am and drove 700 miles to Diedesfeld, Neustadt an der Weinstraße to spend some time with our good friends at Musikverien Diedesfeld Band (MVD Band). Our friends kindly put us up in their homes, we went wine tasting on the Friday at a local vineyard, attended and took part in one of their rehearsals ahead of performing with them at the closing night of the Winzergenossenschaft Weinbiet wine festival celebrations. Over the bank holiday weekend we provided entertainment during the Asylum Steampunk Festival held in and around the Castle. The festival is the largest and longest running steampunk festival in the world and is the first time we have been involved with it. We were placed inside the castle grounds and played for an hour in the glorious sunshine. The event is extremely well attended and we were look after very well by the organisers, this is something we hope to be part of again in the future.
