Firefighters Memorial Parade – London

The band was present in London on Sunday and took part in the annual Firefighters Memorial Parade around St Paul’s Cathedral area of the capital. This year LFRCB was the lead band but we had help from our friends from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Ceremonial Unit, The West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Band and The Band of The West Midlands Fire Service. From Remembrance weekend in November up to Christmas is always the busiest time for the band and this year has certainly been no exception! We’ve had several Christmas engagements, one of which we supplied music for numerous school choirs as well as playing our own arrangements of many Christmas pieces in Lincoln Cathedral for The LIVES Charity Christmas Concert. Remembrance Weekend

This years remembrance weekend was extra special due to the 100 year celebrations since the formation of The Royal Air Force and also marking 100 years since the end of World War 1. We held our annual concert of remembrance on Friday the 9th November with all proceeds going to The Royal British Legion. This Sunday 7th October we are holding a charity concert in memory of Adrian Sherratt, one of our saxophone players who sadly passed away earlier this year. The concert will start at 2pm at Windmill Farm, Whisby Road, Lincoln, LN6 3QZ and is free entry with donations collected at the end. All proceed will go to St Barnabas hospice who cared for Adrian so well while he was poorly. We have a fabulous programme of music with some solo pieces being performed from our saxophone section. The band has been incredibly busy this month, we had our first June engagement on 1st June at the Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham for Ermine Lodge Ladies Night, an enjoyable night for guests and the band. For the 3rd year in a row this this year we took part in The Lincolnshire Show, this was preceded by many extra rehearsals at Nettleham HQ on Sunday mornings for marching practice and for several members this was there first time marching. Last Saturday we performed at The Venue, Lincoln with Massed Bands of The Army Cadet Force with cadets from Lincoln, Derby, Wales and Scotland. At the concert there was 70 of us on stage, a huge sound and during the concert our musical directors from each band rotated with some guest conductors also. We are very sorry to announce the recent loss of two of our friends. John Hicks who retired from the band a year ago and Adrian Sherratt who was one of our Tenor Saxophone players both passed away within a short time of each other. John was one of our trombone players and started playing in the band about 25 years ago after his wife bought him a trombone, John quickly taught himself how to read music and blow a few notes, he then found himself joining what was then The Lincolnshire Concert Band. On Thursday we held our AGM and appointed our new committee for the year ahead. James Kirk who has served as our chairman for the past few years has decided to step down due to work commitments but will remain in the band as our bass trombonist, we thank James for his dedication in the office of chairman. £1000 presented to The Royal British Legion

Back in November we held our annual concert of remembrance, all proceeds from this event go to The Lincoln Branch of The Royal British Legion. We are delighted to announce that we raised at total of £1000 which we presented to the charity on Sunday at our Christmas Concert at Windmill Farm in Lincoln. We were also very pleased to have The President of the band Chief Fire Officer Mr Nick Borrill present at the concert and he kindly presented the cheque to Sgt Steve Riley, The Royal British Legion, Lincoln Branch.
