A very busy June!

The band has been incredibly busy this month, we had our first June engagement on 1st June at the Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham for Ermine Lodge Ladies Night, an enjoyable night for guests and the band. For the 3rd year in a row this this year we took part in The Lincolnshire Show, this was preceded by many extra rehearsals at Nettleham HQ on Sunday mornings for marching practice and for several members this was there first time marching. Before Lincs Show on 15th June we provided a marching display static performance and a sunset ceremony for an Evening Reception for The Army Benevolent Fund attended by many VIP’s and The Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire.

This month has not been plain sailing though as unfortunately we lost our Director of Music to illness for the above events, thankfully Brian is on the mend and we look forward to him waving the stick at us very soon. In the light of this we had some important decisions to make, Lincolnshire show is our flagship engagement of the year and to not have our very experienced conductor with us on the day left us in a bit of quandary. We have a very competent young Assistant Director of Music in the band called James Wood but we really needed him to play tuba on the day. This is where we need to announce our special thanks out to Lee whitworth, Director of Music for The Band of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service. Lee kindly stepped in at very short notice and directed the band for the day with just one rehearsal. You could say Lee saved the day, the band were nervous not having Brian there but as soon as we stepped off onto the main ring for our first slot everything just clicked into place and the day was a great success. We also need to thank our bagpiper Mark for his involvement at the show, the band enjoyed very much having Mark play with us and hope this can be a regular thing.

We still have two more important engagements this month coming up, we will be in Lincoln City Centre for Armed Forces Day from 0945hrs on Sat 30th June followed by an afternoon performance at Lincolnshire Police & Fire HQ Family Fun Day at Nettleham.
